Week 6(?) Update

Image
We're getting into I-don't-know-what-week-we're-in territory now. It may not seem like much, but I finished one of the line-arts and coloring for one of the character introduction sheets. I need to finish up the line art and coloring of the other figure, then do the sheet for the last character and I'm done with those. I have a checklist somewhere...     Look at that little goober. Isn't he cute? I hope the artwork looks fairly consistent throughout my works...

Critique Monday February 17 2025

I wasn't feeling the last project so I decided to scrap it. Now I'm doing a comic. New Artist's Statement     When I was little I was convinced I wanted to be a writer rather than an artist. I would write these "books" about little girls my age with superpowers inspired by the shows I'd see on TV at the time. I loved making them, but the "books" were more pictures thans words, which annoyed a lot of my teachers. As I got older and entered into Middle School teachers were so upset that the students wanted to read comics rather than books because they weren't as sophisticated. They saw it as the easy way out of learning how to read.     When I was 14 I was introduced to anime and manga by my best friend at the time. Once I consumed the media I never really went back. I now prefer reading comics over books, and it's because of the detail that goes into them. I don't necessarily want to be famous, but I do want to create something that br...

Week 4 of Spring Semester

Image
I got most of a page done this week. I've also gotten feedback from peers and they all like the story so far and they say it's comprehensive. Good. I would also like to state on record that I took a break to read a comic I'd heard a lot about, and read all 92 chapters of that comic in two days (only because I started it late at night, otherwise it would've been read in a day). Also I hate 2D animation so far.

Week 3 of Spring Semester

Image
Working hard or hardly working? I've been very sick for this entire week starting Monday night and lasting until just about now. I feel much better and will be returning to classes on Monday. I have accidentally worried my professors because I kinda went MIA for a full five days. I spent at least two of those days literally comatose for more than 12 hours and in and out of consciousness for one day. Fun stuff. Anyways. In the delerium of my illness and the HOURS of a new update of a game I play, I spent a lot of time on my artworks. I got a lot done, including a page of the comic and most of a character sheet.

Week 2 of Spring Semester

Image
Progress is going well. With my classes going on and how much I have to read for assignments this semester I'm getting out a page and a half of story a week. That's pretty good. By the end of this next week I should be halfway through. Not sure if I'm on schedule with what I had planned last week, but it's definitely progress and I'm okay with it. Drawing hands suck so I'm going to go back and work on the panels with hands. I might have to use my roommate's hands for references.

Change in Capstone and New Project

Image
The last project wasn't going so well so I've decided on a new one: A comic. I'm not sure how long it will be yet, but I do have some kind of plot in mind.     The comic will start with a building on fire and children running from it. All of the children are in ragged clothing and dirty. A little girl stops running to turn back and watch the fire burn, then another child, a boy, grabs her shoulder and tells her to run. They run off together.     A few years later the two kids are in a middle school in South Korea. The girl, Anne, sits at her desk reading while another group of kids sits near the window talking about her. Anne listens in, then sees the boy, Grayson, run down the hall covering his mouth. The scene then cuts to Grayson outside sitting against the brick wall of the school in an isolated area holding his hand over his mouth. Blood starts trickling down from it. When he removes his hand we see a forked tongue and fangs. His fangs cut hi...

Final Artist's Statement/Final Critique

Image
This semester has been absolute hell. I have not enjoyed it. I have been drowning since about week 3 and it never stopped. I had to allocate most of my time between 3 demanding projects: My German Capstone, my animation short film project, and my Art Capstone. The panic attack count is around 4 at the moment. However, all is not lost, because I've been researching a lot for my capstone and I found a lot of interesting things and ideas.     First up, the first character I finished one of my pieces for. Girl's fashion isn't what it used to be, and it's terrifying. If you've ever gone through a girl's clothing section in stores, you'll see many outfits for little girls with incredibly short skirts and tight shorts and shirts. The shirts will most of the time be cropped and revealing, and the dresses in the summer have the hips cut out in the dresses. These outfits are inappropriate. The power of social media and the lack of spaces for children and tweens ...
